Ako u fitnesu želite da dođete do dobrih rezultata, najpre treba da poradite na glavi. Dejvid Gogins je “doktor mentalne snage”. Evo njegove priče.

Malo je muškaraca otporno poput Dejvida Goginsa, 43-godišnjeg pripadnika Navy SEAL-a u penziji. Odrastao je u Brazilu, gradiću u Indijani, gde su ga kao slabašnog dečaka maltretirali jači vršnjaci. Njegov otac je tukao njegovu majku, a prebio je i njega kad je ovaj kao šestogodišnjak pokušao da je zaštiti. Majka ga je napustila kada je Dejvid napunio osam godina. Mučio se u školi s mucanjem, i mao poteškoća u učenju. Posle srednje škole primljen je u vazduhoplovne snage kao taktički kontrolor leta; ugojio se, stigao do 135 kg. Zatim se bavio dezinsekcijom i u noćnoj šihti tamanio bubašvabe.

Just wake the fuck up! I get asked all the time how do I do it- how do I find the motivation to workout everyday? Well, that so-called motivation died out 30k running miles ago. I'm sorry, there is no secret. Some people write books, articles, etc., on ways for you to find motivation to workout. Most of it is BS. I speak from experience. You don't become 300lbs twice in your life because you love running! Yes, some people love working out, well Merry Christmas to you. Personally I hate the shit! Every morning putting on those fucking running shoes and then stepping outside in the cold, hot, rain, snow, etc. You get my point. I’m just keeping it real! Yes, attitude is everything but shit still sucks! This is why in 2014 the obesity rates were 34.3% in men and 38.3% in women. The shit sucks…period! On your bad days, when you feel like a tortured soul, that is when you can really win the battle against yourself! If, on your worst days you can pull off your best performances, that's when your mind truly starts to shift! Win that battle and it will move the mental needle! It's easy to win when life's your best friend but when it's choking you out is when you truly grow. Sometimes there is no light at the end of the fucking tunnel but you still have to go in!!!! There may be no light at the end but, there is a better you! Start conditioning your mind to walk in the darkness. Trust me, the more you walk in it the better your eyes will adjust to it!

Jednog jutra nakon posla, sa čokoladnim šejkom u jednoj i kutijom krofni u drugoj ruci, Gogins se zavalio u trosed i uključio televizor. Na programu je bio dokumentarac povodom paklene nedelje Navy SEAL-a. Gogins nije trčao već godinu dana i nije mogao da uradi pet zgibova, ali gledajući kako „ubijaju novake ko volove u kupusu”, duboko se zamislio o vlastitom životu. To ga je podstaklo na akciju. „Maltretirao sam samog sebe”, tvrdi Dejvid. „Pogledao sam u ogledalo i
ugledao patetičnu, slabu, prezira vrednu osobu. Nisam bio ponosan ni na šta”.To brutalno samoprocenjivanje, koje naziva „autopsija naživo”, Gogins sada redovno primenjuje. „Ne možete se skrivati iza laži koje sebi govorite”, tvrdi on.

„Laži će vas uvek sustići. Ako ste debeli, priznajte da ste debeli, ne vrdajte, i učinite nešto u vezi s tim”. Gogins je nazvao šestoricu instruktora, koji su ga ismejali, sedmi mu je pružio priliku. Kilograme je izgubio već nakon tri meseca jer je jeo minimalno – samo pileća prsa i voće, a pio je vodu – i trenirao maksimalno, pet dana u nedelji. Počeo je da trenira ne bi li sam sebi dokazao da nije „gomila govana”. „Shvatio sam da je reč o psihološkoj igri – sam protiv sebe. Što su me instruktori više lomili, to sam im se luđe cerio u lice”. Njegovi unutarnji dijalozi gurnuli su ga k uspehu. Gogins se kvalifikovao (prošao je i trening Army Ranger) i 14 godina služio u SEAL-sima, odradivši i više vojnih misija.

Be willing to go to war with yourself! We don't know what we can't do until someone tells us. Most of us are willing to do anything to pursue our dreams then people tell us how dangerous or stupid our dreams are. They tell us about the downside. They tell us about our limitations and how the others before us didn't make it. They give us other options instead of what we want to do. They talk us out of our dreams. This is one reason I invented the fucking cookie jar! You must create a system that constantly reminds you who the fuck you are! You are only capable of living up to the image you create in your mind. Life is not going to pick you up when you fall. There will be forks in the road, knives in the fucking back, mountains to climb, etc. Prepare yourself! We know life can be hard and yet we feel sorry for ourselves when life isn't fair! You will be made fun of! You will feel insecure! You may not be the best! You may be the only black, white, female, male, gay, lesbian or whatever! Get over it! There will be times where you feel alone! Our minds are fucking strong, we have just stopped using them! We have access to so many more resources today and yet do less than those who came before us! No one gives you wisdom. You get that shit as you struggle on your journey. It's ok to be afraid but it's not ok to be a coward. When I was in SEAL training the Pacific Ocean was always cold. When my mind realized I wasn't going to quit, the water warmed. The water never really warmed I just no longer gave a fuck.

Posle penzionisanja, snagu koju je onde stekao koristio je trčeći ultramaraton (2007. godine bio je treći na Badwater-u) i Ironman (2008. postigao
je rezultat 11:24:01) i učestvovao na raznim takmičenjima u izdržljivosti. Ušao je u Ginisovu knjigu rekorda sa 4.030 zgibova za 17 sati.
Lane je „osvojio Everest” na VersaClimber-u, ispenjavši 8.848 m za tri sata i 33 minuta. Istu visinu „skinuo” je i na Jakobovim lestvama za 6 sati i 15 minuta.
Tegla s kolačima Goginsova virtuelna tegla ne sadrži slatkiše: „U mojoj tegli s kolačima nalaze se svi moji životni uspesi i neuspesi”, kaže on. „Kada
situacija postane kritična, ja se smirim, zastanem na sekundu, preuzmem kontrolu nad mislima i posegnem u teglu: ‘Gle, celog su te života nazivali crnčugom, a sad si jedina osoba koja je ikad uradila to, to i to.’ Resetujem misli. Kada ste u škripcu, morate se prisetiti kakva ste faca. To je tegla s kolačima”.

SKOK NA GLAVU
Gogins mrzi trčanje: „Teško mi je to, noge me đavolski bole, mrzak mi je svaki minut dok trčim”. Ali, s vremenom je shvatio da, ako želi da ostane mentalno jak, mora napuštati svoju zonu komfora – redovno. „U detinjstvu sam već shvatio da mi um može pomoći da savladam teškoće”. Stoga mu je poseban gušt da pobedi bol. „Nisam tip koji prati vremensku prognozu – što god mi priroda pripremila, ja sam spreman”.

RAZMIŠLJAJTE KAO ROKI
Dok je obarao svetski rekord u broju zgibova, Gogins je sve vreme slušao Going the Distance, pesmu iz Rokija. „Apolo je razbio Rokija i odlazi u svoj ugao s rukama uvis, misleći da će Roki odustati”, priča on. „Miki dovikuje Rokiju da se ne podiže s poda, ali Roki se pridiže, pridržavajući se za užad. Na Apolovom licu vidite da ne može verovati da Roki ne odustaje… To je taj način razmišljanja. Daj sve od sebe. Ta pesma koja traje 2,5 minuta pratila me je svih 17 sati”.

Don't live in your past accomplishments! That shit is over. Yes, be proud of what you did but don't let it stop you from relentlessly attacking today. Don't have the " I used to be”’mindset! Yes, we all get older and there are a lot of things that start getting in the way but don't become complacent, there's more to do! If you were 190 pounds of cuts when you were 25 years old, at 45, your goal should be 185lbs and in better shape. If you can't get there, work for it anyway! That kind of mentality will keep you grinding trying to find more! It's not just about working out. It's every aspect of your fucking life! When you're 60, your goal should be to kick the 30 year olds’ asses! Give them something to shoot for! It works for all ages! Educate the generation under yours by kicking their ass in everything you do! Continue to compete against yourself until the end! Don't let that weak ass voice saying “you've done enough”’win! Continue to put shit in front of you that you have to conquer! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TODAY?

ŽRTVA
„Učestvovao sam u 50 ultraških trka. Neke od njih trčale su se da bi se podigla društvena svest i prikupio novac za Fondaciju Ratnik specijalnih jedinica. Razmišljam o momcima koji se nisu vratili. Oni su pravi heroji, bili su spremni da daju sve. I to je taj mentalitet. Želim da iskoristim svaki gram potencijala svoga tela. Siguran sam da, kad umremo, naš duh nastavlja da živi da bi razmislio o svim stvarima koje nije postigao u životu”.
